Zugegeben, als
ich vor ein paar Jahren hörte, dass Sigma eine Kompaktkamera mit
Festbrennweite auf den Markt bringt war ich auch etwas im Zweifel was
ich davon halten sollte. Eine Kompaktkamera mit dem Foveonsensor (Einen
Artikel zu dem Sensor gibt es
HIER von mir und
HIER von Mark) für
einen doch recht bemerkenswerten Preis und dann mit einer Festbrennweite
… hmm … wer sollte die kaufen?
Admittedly,
when I became aware a few years ago that Sigma was going to bring a
compact camera with a fixed focal length to the market, I was really
unsure what I should make of this. A compact camera with a Foveon
sensor (a blog articles about the sensor can be found
HERE and from
Mark
HERE) that would not be particularly cheap and with a fixed focal
length … hmm … who was going to buy it?
Später
gab es dann insgesamt drei verschiedene Merrillmodelle mit
unterschiedlichen Brennweiten (19mm, 30mm und 50mm) und mittlerweile die
Quattroreihe mit gleich vier verschiedenen Kameras und Brennweiten
(14mm, 19mm, 30mm und 50mm).
In
total 3 different Merrill compact cameras were brought to the market
with different focal lengths (19mm, 30mm and 50mm) and recently the
Quattro series with 4 different cameras each with a fixed focal length
(14mm, 19mm, 30mm and 50mm).
Für
mich als DSLR Nutzer waren Kompaktkameras sowieso irgendwie
uninteressant und höchstens etwas für Schnappschüsse. Und dafür dachte
ich, dass man ja eher einen großen Zoombereich möchte und keinesfalls
eine Festbrennweite. Aber die DP1M war auch die weltweit erste digitale
Kompaktkamera, die einen Bildsensor äquivalent der Sensorgröße von SLR
Kameras beinhaltete. Das heißt in den DP Merrill Kameras war der gleiche
Sensor drin wie in meiner SD1. Ok, das machte es dann doch irgendwie
interessant denn vom Sensor bin ich ja sehr überzeugt.
As
a confirmed DSLR user, compact cameras were not something that
interested me and at most something for ‘snapshots’. I presumed that a
large zoom would have been preferable and not a fixed focal length.
Nevertheless, the DP1M was the first compact camera in the world which
contained a sensor which was the same size as could be found in a DSLR.
This meant that the DP1M contained the same sensor as my SD1, and,
since I am completely impressed by the sensor in this camera, I thought
that perhaps there was something about these compact DP cameras that
warranted further attention after all.
Als
ich dann mit der DP2M selbst eine der Kameras dauerhaft in der Hand
hatte begann ich nach und nach mich damit anzufreunden. Inzwischen habe
ich alle drei der Merrillreihe kennengelernt und vor kurzem auch die
komplette Quattroserie. Aber dazu zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt mehr.
When,
I eventual had the DP2M for an extended period, I began, despite my own
‘prejudice’, to warm to the camera more and more and I am thus no
longer surprised, that in the meantime I have regularly used all three
DP Merrills and recently the complete Quattro series, but more about
these in a later blog.
Insbesondere
mit der DP2M habe ich mittlerweile viele Bilder gemacht und die Kamera
ist mir immer mehr ans Herz gewachsen. Die Bilder sind so detailreich
und scharf und von einer Farbwiedergabe und Brillanz wie ich sie vom
Foveon gewöhnt bin und das perfekt abgestimmte Objektiv ist wirklich
Klasse. Wenn ich eines der Bilder später im RAW-Konverter öffnete hat es
mich wirklich manchmal fast umgehauen so intensiv war das Bildergebnis.
Und irgendwann habe ich dann gemerkt wie bequem es doch ist mit den
„Kleinen“ und festgestellt, dass ich öfter zu einer DP Kameras griff als
das Objektiv an der SD1 zu wechseln. Der Detailreichtum von der DP3M
ist fast unglaublich mit einem hervorragenden für den Sensor perfekt
abgestimmtem Objektiv. Für Detailfotografien ist diese Kombination
unschlagbar und insbesondere
MARK greift sehr oft zu dieser Kamera. Die DP3M Bilder wurden von Mark zur Verfügung gestellt.
I
now have many pictures in my portfolio from the DP2M which has won a
place in my heart. The images are so sharp and rich in detail with a
colour reproduction and brilliance that I am used to achieving with the
Foveon sensor: The lens is trimmed perfectly to match the camera sensor
and that is part of the secret of these cameras. Again and again, when i
open a shot in the RAW-converter, i am simply blown away the intensity
of the result and at some point, I began to notice that I would tend to
put a different DP camera on my tripod rather than to change a lens on
my SD1. The level of detail from the DP3M is almost unbelievable with a
suburb lens that is perfectly matched to the sensor: A combination
which is unbeatable for detail photography and
MARK in particular
regularly uses this camera in his work. The pictures from the DP3M were provided by Mark Ford.

Alle
Kameras verfügen über ein Filtergewinde und ich benutze regelmäßig
Polfilter und verschiedene Graufilter. Da die Kameras über keinen Sucher
verfügen (optional für die DP 1M und DP 2M verfügbar, für die DP3 M von
einem anderen Anbieter auch zu bekommen) benutze ich grundsätzlich
einen View Finder zur Displaykontrolle. Insbesondere im Sonnenlicht ist
es sonst tatsächlich etwas schwierig die Bildkomposition zu finden, aber
hier hilft enorm eine Displaylupe, welche als Standardzubehör für die
Quattros zu bekommen ist.
All
cameras have a filter thread and I regularly use both polarising and
neutral density filters with all the cameras. Since the DP Merrills do
not have an optical viewfinder as standard (for the DP1M and DP2M as
optional extra and for the DP3M from third party suppliers) I use the
LCD view finder for composition and image control. This is somewhat
difficult in direct sunlight, however, a display loupe, which is an
excellent standard extra with the Quattros solves this problem
effortlessly.
Jetzt,
da die Quattroreihe da ist und mit der DP0 Quattro auch eine echte
Weitwinkelalternative besteht, sind die DP Kameras insbesondere für die
Landschaftsfotografie und für längere Touren für mich absolut
interessant.
Was
den Preis betrifft, da sehe ich das eher so, dass man ja für ein
qualitativ hochwertiges Objektiv auch ganz schön tief in die Tasche
greifen muss. Und hier habe ich den Sensor direkt mit dran am Objektiv.
Und gerade bei der Landschaftsfotografie am Meer, im Sand, im Regen oder
Schneesturm empfinde ich es als Wahnsinnsvorteil wenn ich keine
Objektive wechseln muss. Mit meiner SD1 zum Beispiel muss ich den Sensor
fast nach jeder Tour reinigen lassen und ich merke, dass ich deutlich
häufiger die Kamera wechsle als ich das mit Objektiven tun würde. Keine
Sensorflecke, das Gewicht hält sich auch in Grenzen und was das
Wichtigste ist, die Qualität, wie ich von dem Foveonsensor gewohnt bin,
ist überzeugend.
Now
that the Quattro series is available, with the DP0 Quattro as a true
wide angle camera, these cameras are a truly interesting for my serious
landscape photography and long photography tours. The cameras are not
cheap but then I look at it in terms of the amount of money I would have
to pay to get a high quality lens. Especially with landscape
photography by the sea, in the sand, in the rain or a snowstorm, the
fact that I do not need to open a camera to the elements is for me a
very real positive advantage. With my SD1, for example, I have to clean
the sensor after virtually every single tour and I notice just how
often i prefer to change cameras than lenses. No sensor spots, a
reduced camera weight and most importantly an image quality from the
Foveon sensor to which i am used is simply a very persuasive argument.
Aus
meinem Fotogepäck sind die DP Kameras nicht mehr wegzudenken und ich
habe alle für mich interessanten Brennweiten im Landschaftsbereich und
ein Stück weit auch im Detailbereich abgedeckt.
Wie
bereits geschrieben, hatten
MARK und ich vor kurzem die Möglichkeit mit
allen vier Quattrokameras ein Wochenende lang zu fotografieren. Wir
haben uns die Verzasca und das Verzascatal allgemein dafür
herausgesucht. Darüber gibt es demnächst einen Artikel mit vielen
Bildern von allen vier Quattrokameras.
The
DP cameras now have a permanent place in my camera bag with focal
lengths that cover all that I need for my landscape photography and in
part for my detail work as well. As has already been stated,
MARK and I
had the chance recently to use all four Quattro cameras for a weekend.
To fully exploit all four cameras we chose to visit the Verzascatal and
the surrounding area and an article about all four cameras with the
appropriate images will be posted soon.
