Coast, Shore, Cliff and Cove . . . yes England has truly many.  In every variation and always breathtakingly beautiful.  Dramatic and hardly reachable cliffs, kilometres of sandy beaches, pebble beaches, fantastic rock formations of every possible appearance . . . the diversity appears inexhaustible and never stops taking your breath away.  And the further into Cornwall we went the more impressive it became...

The heart of the photographer beats naturally that little bit faster, the pulse races a little, you see potential motifs everywhere and play in your mind with thoughts different scenarios of optimal light.  Of course you don’t always get the light you would like at the right time but all in all we were blessed with excellent light on several occasions. Ines has already reported about the coast, here, in her last article.

After Porth Naven we headed for Welcombe Mouth and Hartland Quay that are actually in Devon, our last resort as it were. One can do a lot worse than meet up with a local photographer . . . Ines has already mentioned in her last article that we met Lea Tippet, born locally, he knows the area like his jacket pocket and loves the landscape with an intensity that is infectious.  It really was a real pleasure to get to meet him and spend an evening photographing together.  Chatting together and letting myself become even more caught up in his enthusiasm.  His tips and suggestions were worth their weight in gold and were truly the ‘icing on the cake’ that made our tour a truly unforgettable and addictive experience.  Thank you Lea!  i hope we will see each other again soon.  It is well worthwhile stopping by his website by the way . . .

Despite all this beauty you should not forget the dangers of the coast.  The surge and tide can be extremely dangerous and you ignore it at your peril.  In some areas it is life threatening to wander to far along the coast without being mindful of the tide, because it will come and when it does come, it can come very quickly, bloody quickly, if you have dared go too far.  For this reason care is always required and we have never strayed to far from the shoreline.

Even as you are taking pictures the tide can be a problem . . . You are concentrating on motif and angle of view as the water should be gently washing over the rocks until you reach the point where you are finally getting set up and you are virtually washed off the rocks by the incoming tide.  The idea, that you can simply climb onto one of the nearby larger rocks would of course not be a bad idea, except of course it is covered with extremely slippery alga and seaweed ;-)  I remember a vague thump to the chin and that i held the camera high and away from danger but thereafter everything is dim and black before my eyes.  Thank God, I did not come to any harm.  A  swollen and bleeding chin, a good bruise and a good schock. I supposes that an english stone doesn’t really stand a chance against a bavarian ‘mule head’ and what do you not do to light up a few pixels on the sensor :-P

Vom 17.-20. April 2015 - 4 Tage pure Landschaftsfotografie mit vielen Tipps dazu.

All to soon our days in South Wsest England war coming to a close and just as Ines and myself were becoming the perfect team who new how to judge the tide it was over :-(  The knowledge, that a country that is so unbelievably multifaceted and yet is so reachable, means that we wait all to impatiently for our next visit.  Even if i never see another part of England or Scotland, I am very sure that a never ending treasure trove of landscapes are simply waiting there for us to discover and photograph them.  That we have not visited England for the last time is promise form the both of us :-)

Loving Greetings
